Dr. Zoheir Elkhatib is a dedicated public health leader with 19 years of experience at the UNRWA Health Programme, currently serving as the Chief of Disease Prevention and Control at UNRWA Headquarters. He is a Palestinian with a strong educational foundation, holding an MBBS from Pakistan (1998) and a master’s in public health, specializing in health management, from Al-Quds University, Palestine (2010).

In his current role, Zoheir leads a specialized team responsible for managing NCDs, communicable diseases, and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) services. His team’s work is part of UNRWA’s mission to deliver primary healthcare services to over 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees, with a particular focus on life-saving services for individuals with chronic health conditions in Gaza’s challenging environment. Zoheir is also deeply involved in monitoring and safeguarding refugee health during crises in one of the most challenging regions in the world.
