Dr. Aniella Abi-Gerges is an Associate Professor, Medical Year 2 Director, and Physiology & Ethics Coordinator at the Lebanese American University – Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury School of Medicine, where she has served as a full time faculty member since 2016. She earned her Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Cardiac Physiopathology from the University Paris Saclay, France and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in cardiovascular physiopathology and hormonal signaling at Pierre and Marie Curie University School of Medicine in Paris. She also holds a diploma in Medical Ethics from the Lebanese University.
Dr. Abi-Gerges’ academic career reflects a strong commitment to both research and education. She has played a pivotal role in designing and advancing curricula that integrate the complexities of human physiology with the ethical dimensions of healthcare. Through her dual leadership in physiology and ethics, she ensures that students are trained to become scientifically rigorous, compassionate, and ethically grounded physicians. She also contributes to institutional governance as a member of the LAU Institutional Review Board (IRB) and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), underscoring her commitment to ethical standards in research.
Her research interests lie at the intersection of cardiovascular health, medical ethics, and the gender gap in science and medicine. She has authored numerous publications in high-impact international journals and has presented her work at leading scientific conferences worldwide. Over the course of her career, she has been the recipient of several awards and competitive research grants.
Dr. Abi-Gerges’ ultimate goal as a scientist and educator is to provide medical students with a comprehensive and evidence-based education that cultivates critical thinking, empathy, and ethical decision-making, while continuing to contribute impactful research in her field of expertise.
